Former Omagh Individual Snooker Champion Crowned Tyrone 6-Ball Open Champion

The new Ireland’s Inter Club 6-Ball Snooker Series cued off with its first event on Saturday 9th May when players gathered from throughout Tyrone and other border counties to take part the 2009 Co. Tyrone Open 6-Ball Snooker Championship at the Coach Inn venue Omagh…

And it was hometown player Barry Loughran who emerged to be crowned champion. Barry had to show all his talent and battling qualities coming from 3-1 down in the last-16 to get over the line on a 4-3 victory against Paul Corrigan (Fintona) with the help of a 33 break. He had another battle in the final coming back from 3-0 down but once again he came out on top.


The four players that reached the semi-finals of the 2009 Co. Tyrone Open 6Ball Snooker Championship LtoR:
Adam Mc Mackin (Beragh), Brendan Mc Donagh
(Dromore, runner-up), Barry Loughran (Omagh, winner) and Jimmy Quinn (Omagh).

This new shorter format proved to be very popular producing top class, and entertaining action for all to enjoy.  The tournament also attracted like the 2008 All Ireland Junior 8Ball Pool Champion Adam Mc Mackin who put in a fantastic performance to reach his first semi-final of a major snooker event only to be defeated by the outright champion Loughran.

Adam produced a great 25 break in the decider to secure a 4-3 victory over Paul Brown (Enniskillen) and progress into his first snooker semi-final, but come Saturday evening former Omagh & District Snooker League Individual Champion Barry Loughran lifted the title….……

Barry created a piece of history by winning the first ever 6-ball snooker tournament organised in this area when he defeated another great champion Brendan Mc Donagh (Dromore) in the final on a 5-3 score-line….

Barry showed everyone what a fantastic talent he is playing fast attacking snooker throughout the tournament and producing some brilliant breaks along the way which included the highest break of the tournament a fabulous 61, which is not bad with 75 being the maximum break for a 6ball snooker game….…

Barry also produced further breaks on his route to victory with a 33 break in the last-16 against Paul Corrigan (Fintona) a 61 and 33 break in his ¼-final match against Patrick Mc Crossan (Strabane), and a further 31 break against Brendan Mc Donagh in the final with Brendan replying with 33 & 37 break……….

Tournament organisers would like to say a big thank you to Connor Quinn manager of the Coach Inn for providing a fabulous venue for these Inter Club 6Ball Snooker Series events.

Thanks and praise must go to all the players that travelled to compete and congratulations to Barry Loughran for becoming the first Champion………..

Highlights:

Some of the highlights to catch the tournament organisers eye included the fantastic performance that Jimmy Quinn (Omagh) produced in his 4-2 victory over Glen Roulson (Strabane) knocking in four good breaks of 27, 30, 35 and a fabulous 56 in his last-16 fixture.

Brendan Mc Donagh also put on a great display in semi-final against Jimmy Quinn coming from 2-0 down to win the match 4-2 recording breaks of 33 and 48 in the progress…..

Rounding of the highlights came from 15-year-old Adam Mc Mackin (Beragh) who reached his first semi-final of a major snooker event and the superb 61 break from Barry Loughran in his ¼-final clash with Strabane’s Patrick Mc Crossan.

Individual Players Premier League:

Entries are being taken for the new Individual 6-Ball Players Snooker Premier League which will be open to category A players with all entries selected and judged by the tournament organisers with the tournament limited to the first 16 players on a first come, first served basis played in a round robin format taking place over two nights during the week at the Coach Inn Snooker & Pool Club venue………..For all entries and information contact 07917887147.…..

Individual Players Challenge Cup:

Entries are being taken for the new Individual 6-Ball Players Challenge Cup with no category “A” players allowed to play with 12 entries already received means there only remains four places available for players to enter which is also on a first come, first served basis…….
